The ancients believed they could perceive
any person’s character by studying their laugh.
Although it fell out of favor ages ago,
this art might be a boon in these dark days.
So laugh,
and let me tell you who you are.
Set a feast on a blanket in the sun.
I will listen as the laughter pours out like wine.
Seek the wisdom of a balloon in flight.
I will hear you giggling on the breeze.
Mortgage tomorrow for a carousel ride today.
I will heed the gleeful gales of childhood recaptured.
Climb a tree in every season,
I will comprehend the taxonomy of joy.
Who knows what we might learn
from the geloscopist’s craft.
Let’s just dare to laugh,
and be whoever we hope to be.
