The public lungs, they swell and churl,
The public teeth, they chatter,
The public head, it swims and throbs,
The public heart, it pitters, patters.
The public knees, they knock and crack,
The public back, it pulls and pains,
The public gut, it heaves and struggles,
The public eyes, they dim, they strain.
The public hair, it thins and whitens,
The public brow is sullen,
The public mind, it thins and scatters,
The public crest is fallen.
I sing the body America. We are all
Frogs in this slowly boiling melting pot.
