The sea is rising,
gone inland tacked
to our door, to a dry house
under a roof built fine.
The sea is rising
but we are dry
in our new shoes
made quickly
by the smallest hands.
Here it comes —
carrying our honeymoons, our baptisms
and all that we’ve lost
to our last dream of progress —
no one to walk on it
no one to see the sea
so perfectly full.
Soham.*
*One interpretive translation for the Sanskrit mantra Soham is: You are That (which you seek).
